2011 Fall Grass Drags

The Raccoon Valley Snow Chasers (RVSC) third annual "grass drags" snowmobile race on Sunday, November 20, saw good attendance from both the public and from racers. The race was held at Flack's river farm just west of Jefferson.

The race event included the following classes of snowmobiles: Studded: trail stock, trail performance, stock, improved and modified. There was also a non-studded class. Trophies were awarded for the top three finishers in each class. The racetrack was 500 feet in length and it was a double-elimination race format. The RVSC got to show off their new electronic racing and timing system that was a hit among the racers.

Local trophy winners included Chase Flack of Jefferson. Other winners included Mid-States Powersports of Des Moines, the Prescott Racing team from near Clemons and the Nishna Valley Cycle racing team from Atlantic.

"We had a very good turnout and our club made some good money from the food and beverage stand and from paid admission," said RVSC club president Eric Chrystal.

Ironically, the temperatures at the Sunday drag race was around 15 degrees colder than the temperatures at the club’s winter ice drags held at Lake Panorama in February.

The RVSC were just named the 2011 snowmobile “club of the year” by the Iowa State Snowmobile Association. The president of the ISSA, Gary Burger, paid a special visit to the grass drags on Sunday.
